Road transport out to Beleg was organised with the help of Eddie Stobbard a national haulage contractor , and 10 weeks after we started the project our new Village Hall arrived on site in Kosova., much to the surprise and joy of the villagers , and ourselves. With the help from our local contractors (who had the expertise in erecting mobile homes), who flew out to Kovoso to help us, they supervised the unloading of the 2 halves of the hall and assembled them for us on site .A school was set up in the hall, and a programme for pre-school education developed and established. This programme , developed by the charity has been adopted by UNESCO and is being introduced across Kosovo.

We now have limited contact with the village. Last year, 5 of our members went out Beleg for a few days, painted and decorated the hall. Whilst we refurbished the hall before we took it out there it was already 20 years old and is now beginning to show its age. We have since fitted a well, and laid on direct water to the building along with sanitation.

Our Kosova Project
In the summer of 1999 the club was searching for an international project to take part in and met with the charity called The European Trust, they suggested helping the people in a village called Beleg in Kosovo . Peterborough Cathedral heard about the proposed project and offered their support. Before accepting the project we asked 3 of our members to visit the village to assess their needs. Their report back to the club was that help was desperately needed, preferably before winter started, which was estimated to be in 10 weeks. They told us that about 90% of the homes had been destroyed , and that a majority of the male population had vanished (killed). The women needed help, and a Village Hall was requested for the establishment of a small school, a meeting place, and shelter at night for those without homes. We accepted the challenge.

A fund raising campaign was started and with the generous support from the people of Stamford and Rutland and the local press , we got the project underway . A local school donated a mobile classroom which although some 20 years old was free. This was gratefully accepted, refurbished, painted and
